The Leonberger is very affectionate
and trustworthy dog breed. The Leonberger dog have a very sweet
expression. Loving and trusting and calm mannered, this
Leonberger dog just loves everyone. The Leonberger dog intelligence is
extraordinary and will get on well with dogs and other
pets as well with the most obnoxious children. With most
of these dogs, if the situation becomes too intense,
instead of showing any aggression, the Leonberger simply
walks away. The Leonberger does not respond very well to
harsh training-methods. The Leonberger dog breed will do better
when the trainer shows patience rather then discipline.
If you want your Leonberger to be a watch dog you will
need some special training. Gentle giant in nature, this
intelligent and brave dog breed, is eager to please and
responds to nurturing training. The clicker training
will do well with this breed of dog. The Leonberger dog can
get along with other dogs. Socialize early and well, as
this puppy will become a very large adult! The
Leonberger dog is more agile than many other giant breeds.
A distinct
characteristics of a Leonberger is its black mask,
usually up to the eye area or just above the eyes.
However, this black patch never completely fills the entire head. To
match its famous black mask, the nose and lips are also
of the same color. The Leonberger dog breed is generally very large.
The skull is somewhat shaped like a dome with warm,
affectionate brown eyes, giving off a gentle, somber
expression. The Leonberger dog ears are hanging and just the right
size. The Leonberger dog tail is set low and usually thick, reaching at
least the hocks. Its feet have black pads and webbing
between the toes to help in swimming.
