This Thai Ridgeback makes a great watch and hunting dog. Although this breed isn't considered to be in the " hound" family. A rare in western and Europe, Thai Ridgeback is mostly populated in the South Eastern Thailand community. The Thai Ridgeback is loyal and trusting to family. However does not do well in smaller breeds. Early training and socialization is essential to this breed of dog. The Thai Ridgeback has a strong drive to find food. This drive dates back over 10,000 years or more as they have strong survival instincts. It is not uncommon to see The Thai Ridgeback rooming though the garbage even though they get feed on a regular basis. Long term gentle training can correct this. With The Thai Ridgeback Dog, because of there drive to find food, this can have a weight problem. The weight of the average male Thai Ridgeback is 50 to 60 pds. The weight of the average female of the Thai Ridgeback should be between 35 to 55 pds. The Thai Ridgeback should go on a strict diet plan as leaving food out for this breed of can result in an over weight dog.
The Thai Ridgeback has a very highly protective nature and will make an excellent guard dog. The Thai Ridgeback is not a barker but will defend there family with there life. The Thai Ridgeback is great with children even younger ones as they will run away rather then hurt anyone in the family, but this needs to be watched around strangers. Early socialization is important to help these breeds deal with there behavior problems and the earlier the better.

Thai Ridgeback Dog Thai Ridgebacks have strong, firm backs covered with hair. They also have a loose-skinned, muscular body. The name Ridgeback comes from a ridge on its back, formed by hair growing in opposite directions, thus creating whorls and circles. The Thai Ridgebacks have very strong, muscular shoulders. The Thai Ridgebacks head is carried high atop a firm, strong, clean-cut neck. Thai Ridgebacks also have a powerful-looking muzzle shaped like a wedge. Their
tongues are blue or bluish gray in color. The ears are high set, large, pricked and inclined forward. Their dark-brown, almond-shaped eyes have an alert expression. When the is alert, it shows extra rolls of skin at the back of the neck, particularly evident in puppies.
Thai Ridgeback Skills This breed originated from eastern Thailand and can be found there through the present. Their value as guard dogs are very well appreciated by Farmers in Thailand. The Thai Ridgebacks are a very protective breed and were simply known then as the “cart-following dog”.

They are a very rare breed elsewhere. Thai Ridgebacks make a good watch dog. The Thai Ridgebacks are also excellent guard and hunting dogs. Tough and active with commendable jumping skills, they can also be perfect companions. The Thai Ridgebacks are friendly to the family who owns them but the exact opposite with strangers – distant and aloof.
Thai Ridgeback Exercise Needs Thai Ridgebacks need a good deal of exercise to keep from being restless.
Thai Ridgeback Living Conditions This breed is very sensitive to weather conditions. The Thai Ridgebacks prefer warm climates, as with their native country, and will not be able to survive in cold places. If given the proper exercise, they can live in an apartment. However, a house with a small to medium yard is a more ideal living set-up for Thai Ridgebacks dog.
Thai Ridgeback Grooming Requirements Occasional combing and brushing to remove dead hair is all this breed requires.
