These dogs are well suited to both inexperienced and experienced owners, as they are adaptable, intelligent, and sociable. The Dachshund is not the right choice for those with little time to dedicate to a pet, as they do need love, attention, and companionship. This tends to get along well with older, gentler kids. The Dachshund loves to be around other Dachshund dogs, and with early socialization should get along fine with other pets. When it comes to strangers the reaction of the Dachshund can vary depending on his personality - some will be fine with strangers and others may be aloof.

The Dachshund Dog
The Dachshund is widely popular for its elongated body and short stumps for legs. However, even with such a small height, it is quite a strong and muscular breed. Aside from its long body, it also possesses an elongated head to match, with arched eyebrows, a long snout or muzzle, with teeth that possess a scissors bite. Dachshunds normally grow about 42 teeth in their lifetime. It wears an intelligent expression on its face, thanks to its oval eyes, which, can also come in other colors such as dark red, or brown black. It has long ears that reach to its cheeks, and a tail that is in line with the back. Another point of attraction for this breed is its shiny fur, which is uniform in length.

The Dachshund breed was first born in Germany years ago, and was bred to hunt badgers. In fact, its name, Dachs, is derived from the German word for badger. Dachshunds are actually very brave dogs, and have been known to take on foxes and otters.

The Dachshund dogs have to be one of the most energetic

dogs around. The Dachshund dogs have boundless energy, and are highly affectionate. They are also known for being rather curious and can often cause mischief for their owners. If you’re looking for a that is easy to train, you’re better off getting another breed, as Dachshund being very lively, can be pretty hard to train. The Dachshund dog, if  you’re not careful, this may end up training you instead of you training it. However, even with their energy, they can make for good companions during travels, as this can ease you out of boredom. The Dachshund s are perfect for older children, those who can take care of dogs. Some enthusiasts believe that the wire-haired Dachshund is more active and outgoing than the other varieties. This breed is a very jealous type and very easily irritated.

Dachshund Exercise Needs
Dachshund breeds are very active dogs, so they need a lot of exercise. Just take them for a walk in the park, but take care of them, as they can be easily trampled by people since they are not easily spotted.

Dachshund Living Conditions
The Dachshund will do well in an apartment setting because it does not need a yard for exercise, but always remember that it is a very active dog.

Dachshund Health Issues
Because of its elongated body, the Dachshund is highly prone to back problems, so you should make sure not to make it jump all the time. The Dachshund breed can also develop heart disease, and is also prone to diabetes and urinary tract infections. Don’t make it eat too much, as it can easily get overweight.
