Finnish Lapphund
The Finnish Lapphund is an intelligent herding breed.
Finnish Lapphund dogs take well to training due to their
intelligence. Some owners and fanciers claim that
"Lappies" even have the ability to think through actions
first. Although small in number worldwide, a noticeable
number of Finnish Lapphund dogs have excelled in
activities such as obedience trials, agility, herding
trials, and pet therapy. Finnish Lapphund is friendly
and alert, and makes a good watch dog, due to its
tendency to bark at unfamiliar things. The breed was
originally used to herd reindeer by droving, and barking
helped it to be distinguished from wolves. Even when not
herding, the Finnish Lapphund tends to bark with a
purpose, and more rare cases of problem barking can
normally be controlled by training
The Finnish Lapphund is one of the spitz-like dogs from
the arctic region. Often called as The Dog from the Land
of Midnight Sun, this husky breed is characterized by
its square typed body and long hair. The Finnish
Lapphund is said to have had its beginnings as early as
7000 BC. The breed was once called the Lapponian
Shepherd Dog and was officially called the “Finnish
Lapphund” only in 1993. It is one of the most popular
breeds in Finland as is sometimes known as the
“Suomenlapinkoira” or simply “Lapinkoira.”

Finnish Spitz
Finnish Spitz is a very
independent and often aloof dog, this Finnish Spitz is a
breed that is strong minded and lively. These dogs love
to play and stay active, and physical and mental
stimulation is a must in order to avoid boredom and
associated destructive behavior. Although these dogs are
very independent, they can also be very loyal and
devoted to their families, and are known to be
particularly fond of children. The Finnish Spitz may
often bond with a particular person, but in general is a
dog that loves the companionship of people and enjoys
being a part of the family action. He does have a
sensitive nature, and you should therefore ensure that
he is not in an environment that is wrought with
tension. Because of the independent nature of the breed
it is important to ensure that he is socialized early
on. Although the Finnish Spitz gets along with most
pets, he can be aggressive towards same sex dogs, and
may chase smaller pets such as birds and rodents.
The Finnish Spitz is a small dog
that has fox-like features. It has dark, almond shaped
eyes, forward pointed ears, black nose and lips and a
pointed muzzle that encases teeth that form a scissor
bite. Just like its Japanese counterpart, the Finnish
Spitz has a tail that is curled across its back. It also
has rounded, cat like feet that come with dew claws.
However, these claws are removed from the rear legs of
dogs that participate in shows.

but like children care should be taken around smaller
animals.

and intelligent eyes, a black nose, small yet floppy
