I
have been getting acquainted with Petaluma
Estates pets and their humans. When I first met
Charlotte Libchitz, she was walking her
Fox Terrier
Bandit. Bandit was named by her son-in-law
Adrian Smith because of her facial markings
which looked like a Bandit’s mask After Bandit
died Charlotte missed her companionship and
answered an ad in the paper offering a free
Fox Terrier
mix. The ad was placed by Dr. Santaro, a Vet
with Brandners Animal Hospital. The dog had
belonged to his Aunt. Two people answered the
ad, a gentleman who wanted Gigi for his ranch
and Charlotte. The good Doctor elected to give
the dog to Charlotte and they are a perfect
fit. Gigi is often tied in Charlotte’s
driveway where she greets passing neighbors
while alerting Charlotte to their presence.

Many of the neighbors are her special friends,
Gigi gets upset if they don’t stop to pet her.
Besides human friends Gigi has some close dog
pals. Her favorite is Rusty who belongs to
Charlotte’s daughter Linda. Rusty and Gigi love
to play tug-of-war and chase each other around
the house. Two other favorite pals are a poodle
named Jocko, owned by Eleanor Renati and a
miniature pincher belonging to Russ Stedman.
Both of whom live here in Petaluma Estates and
enjoy a good romp with Gigi. Charlotte loves
Fox Terriers
her first one was named Cleopatra and belonged
to her husband Bob when they were first married.
Charlotte can often be seen walking Gigi who
always wants to stop and greet her special
friends.
Fox
Terriers are energetic and bold
they were first bred by crossing ancient
Dachshunds, the English Hound and later the Fox
Hound and Beagle. They are one of the oldest
Terriers and were used in the 18th
century to hunt foxes in England. Their job was
to harass the fox out of its den. Other
Fox Terrier
talents include: hunting, tracking,
watch-dogging, agility and performing tricks.
They are cheerful, brave, scrappy and
affectionate. They need to be properly leashed
or kept within a confined area as they like to
explore. Charlotte’s Gigi escaped one day and
roamed as far as the Park’s car wash before
being caught. Charlotte tells me that Bandit
would walk beside her without a leash but as yet
Gigi can’t be trusted not to take off.
Fox Terriers
make excellent pets for active elderly people.
With daily walks they do fine without a yard as
they will race around the house getting enough
exercise.
